I went for an annual check-up with my wife here over a year ago. We specifically asked to have the check-up done which is covered wholly under insurance. I could not have been more transparent that I did not want to pay for anything not included in an annual check-up. Our insurance covers what is outlined by the government for an annual check-up based on your age and gender as all insurance is required to do under the ACA now. The doctor had additional work done which was not part of an annual check-up as outlined by the ACA and performed it without our consent. The doctor's office claimed ignorance to any new regulations impacting the medical industry and said it was my responsibility as the consumer to keep up with regulations impacting their industry. I am a pilot, and I can assure you if I ignored new regulations which impacted my industry there would be only two possible outcomes; suspension of my certifications or complete revocation.

I went to Dr. Karlin with puffy, itchy eyes- I couldn't even go outside in the spring! Thanks to him and his lovely staff, all of my allergy symptoms are gone and i can literally breathe easy. He has also become my primary care doctor for myself and my family because I liked him so much, and he has been terrific.

Over a year later and hundreds of dollars worth of bills related to an annual check-up which is covered under insurance, and the issue is still in dispute. Furthermore, the receptionist hung-up on me and the office won't return my calls any longer. I can't speak to the doctor's medical qualifications, I am sure they are superb. But from a customer standpoint, this has been one of my worst experiences in any industry.

Perhaps expecting good customer service is a unicorn in the American Healthcare Industry now. Regardless, I will continue to look elsewhere for a healthcare provider that treats me with respect, doesn't hang up on me when I call, returns my phone calls, is receptive to my grievances if there are any and is knowledgeable about regulations impacting their industry.
